Corrosive Burns of the Esophagus in Children

Abstract

Ingestion of potent corrosive agents, especially alkaline solutions may lead to acute esophageal burns, esophageal or stomach perforation, and even to death. Acute phase of these injuries may be associated with esophageal strictures. This article reviews related issues on the diagnosis and management of esophageal burns and strictures in children in the light of literature.
