In the field of computer science, known as artificial intelligence, algorithms imitate reasoning tasks that are typically performed by humans. The techniques that allow machines to learn and get better at tasks such as recognition and prediction, which form the basis of clinical practice, are referred to as machine learning, which is a subfield of artificial intelligence. http://balkanmedicaljournal.org/uploads/pdf/pdf_BMJ_2461.pdf
Type 1 interferonopathy is a novel context reflecting a group of inborn disorders sharing common pathway disturbances. This group of diseases is characterized by autoimmunity and autoinflammation caused by an upregulation of type 1 interferons (IFN)s due to certain genetic mutations. http://balkanmedicaljournal.org/uploads/pdf/pdf_BMJ_2501.pdf

Mert et al. present a comprehensive systematic review of urogenital cystic echinococcosis, emphasizing its epidemiological patterns, predominant renal involvement, frequent misdiagnosis as neoplasms, and the critical role of radiological imaging supported by ultrasonography and CT in diagnosis, with surgery and antiparasitic therapy serving as the primary treatment.
Derong Huang, Qing Wen, Yuchen Su, et al.
Huang et al. identify the miR-17-5p/BNIP3 axis as a critical regulator of mitochondrial autophagy and fibrotic remodeling in cardiac fibroblasts, implying that it could be a novel therapeutic target for preventing myocardial fibrosis and heart failure progression.
Pan Zhipeng, Kang Lixia, Chen Ling
Zhipeng et al. demonstrate that fat mass and obesity-associated protein-induced m6A demethylation activates the mTORC1 pathway through raptor overexpression, boosting adipogenic differentiation of bone marrow MSCs and promoting chemoresistance in acute myeloid leukemia, implying new therapeutic targets to overcome treatment fail.
Eda Karaismailoğlu, Serkan Karaismailoğlu
Karaismailoğlu et al. observed that tree-based machine learning models, specifically Extra Trees, can accurately predict low bone mineral density from clinical and biochemical data, detecting both known and unknown risk factors for osteoporosis.

The Balkan Medical Journal has published a groundbreaking consensus report on Takotsubo Syndrome (TTS), developed with the collaboration of experts from 16 countries. This report addresses the pressing diagnostic and treatment challenges associated with TTS, a condition characterized by reversible heart dysfunction that often mimics myocardial infarction. By providing actionable recommendations, the report aims to enhance diagnostic accuracy and improve management strategies, fostering a more standardized approach to TTS care across global clinical settings. This international effort marks a significant step forward in addressing the complexities of TTS in medical practice.
The publisher of our journal has been changed. As of January 2022, Balkan Medical Journal started working with GALENOS. We will continue to use the same online manuscript tracking system (Manuscript Manager). However, there have been some changes to our website.
